The Plains Community Library has received an award from the Kansas Community Service Tax Credit Program.  The award will fund expansion and renovation of the library to better serve our community.  This expansion would fulfill the following needs:

Separate, larger adult section
Larger, more interactive children’s area
Larger, more inviting teen section
Larger space for technology
Conference room for education opportunities and meetings

 How will this be funded?

• Donations from patrons
• Donations of $250 and larger are eligible for Kansas Tax Credits
• Donations may be made for tax years 2009 and 2010

The Benefits of using Kansas Tax Credits

• Tax credits are a direct reduction from your KS Income tax liability ( The final amount you owe)
• Tax credits allow the greatest majority of the money generated by donations to be money that the donors would already have to pay in Kansas state taxes
• Tax credits allow KS taxpayers to keep their KS state income tax dollars in OUR community!!!
• Kansas tax payers can see where their money is spent

How it works!!!

• Make a donation to the Plains Community Library
• If the donation is larger than $250, complete a Tax credit application
• The tax credit application form will be processed and returned to you to use with your KS Income Tax submission.
• The tax credit is applied directly to your KS Income Tax liability, if you have tax credits that exceed your KS Income Tax liability, you will receive a check for that amount from the KS Dept. of Revenue
• Donors who itemize are eligible for the Federal charitable contribution deduction.
• Income Tax example using KS Tax credits:
  DONATE $1000 to the Plains Community Library
  SUBTRACT $250 from Federal Income Tax (if you itemize) (25% bracket)
  SUBTRACT $630 from Kansas Income Tax (63% eligible tax credit)
  SUBTRACT $40 Kansas Tax savings of donation (4% tax rate)
  Actual cost of your gift to the library $80
